Latest Swedish timber stats show export growth to UK
The increase in Swedish timber exports to the UK in 2015 is made very clear in the Swedish Forest Industries Federation’s latest statistics report.
Sawn and planed softwood exports to the UK rose 5.4% to 2.07 million m3 in the first nine months of 2015.
Planed exports were up 7.8% to 1.29 million m3, while sawn spruce was up 3.9% to 318,400m3 and sawn pine was marginally down to 457,300m3.
The UK was not alone in wood import growth from Sweden. Sweden’s combined sawn and planed shipments to the Netherlands rose 11.3% to 651,700m3, with planed wood up 12.8% to 384,600m3, sawn spruce up 5.4% to 212,000m3 and sawn pine up 26.1% to 54,700m3.
Germany’s sawn spruce imports from Sweden rocketed 18% to 392,000m3, though France witnessed a 14.3% reverse for the same product.
Further afield, Swedish trade with China continues to creep up – combined sawn and planed exports were up 19% to 409,000m3, planed shipments rising 40.7% to 71,100m3 and sawn spruce increasing by 19% to 293,200m3.
The large Egyptian market was down across the board, while Swedish business with the US continues to rise.
