APEC Leaders concluded their meeting in Bali on Tuesday by issuing a declaration under the theme: “Resilient Asia-Pacific, engine of global growth.”
Seven highlighted points have been agreed upon during the entire series of meetings held for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in 2013, by the 21th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Nusa Dua, Bali.
“We have just concluded the 21st APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting which I chaired. I am pleased to say that our summit went successfully and was indeed very productive. In the course of two days, we discussed thoroughly the central theme of APEC 2013: Resilient Asia-Pacific, Engine of Global Growth. After our intensive deliberations, we agreed on a number of strategic points. Let me now highlight seven of them,” stated the Indonesian President, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono,
The Bogor Goals have become the main issue on the agenda at the APEC 2013 summit in Bali, which aim to open investment and free trade activity in the region by 2020 among developed countries.
APEC leaders have also agreed to increase intra-APEC trade through trade facilitation, capacity development, and ensuring a functional multilateral trade system.
With regard to the acceleration of physical, institutional, interpersonal connectivity, APEC leaders agreed to create a strategic landscape of connectivity for the Asia-Pacific region through infrastructure development and investment.
They also agreed to facilitate the roles of micro, small, and medium businesses launched by the youth or businesswomen since these businesses have been recognized as the backbone of the Asia-Pacific economy.
The APEC leaders have also agreed to increase cooperation on food, energy, and water security in the region and to collaborate across business sectors through the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC).
“Now that we have all these agreements and commitments, we must show the world that APEC will continue to play a significant role in global economy. I believe that all APEC economies will share responsibility to live up to these commitments,” he added.
China has officially received the role of APEC chairmanship for 2014, and the administration in Beijing is expected to prepare the necessary infrastructure development to support the event.
The director general of China’s foreign ministry for Beijing Zhao Huimin, meanwhile, has expressed China’s readiness to become the host of the APEC 2014 summit, noting that preparations have already begun.
He assured his peers that the facilities would meet international standards, as they were in Indonesia this year.
